Maheen Khan

Maheen Khan (Urdu: ماہین خان‎) is a Pakistani fashion and costume designer, also an award winner fashion designer for fashion labels like The Embroidery House, Maheen and Gulabo. She has done many national and international fashion events and shows. She undertook embroidery for the film Snow White and the Huntsman and television series The Jewel in the Crown.

Career

Khan started her career in the fashion industry as a designer in 1972. She has designed costumes and embroidery for the films Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera, Elizabeth, and Elizabeth: The Golden Age. She also done many costumes for theatres and opera.

Khan has created fashion shows in Pakistan and overseas.She is also the CEO of Fashion Pakistan Week. She has also designed for the international fashion events.

Khan also showcased her collection at the Milan Fashion Week where she got the title of Coco Chanel of the East. She also designed dresses for Benazir Bhutto, Jemima Khan, Ghinwa Bhutto, Princess Sarvath al-Hassan and Princess Salimah Aga Khan.

Khan was commissioned by Harrods to make a replica of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's coronation dress for the 60th anniversary celebrations. Harrods ultimately decided not to go with it so she presented the sampler to the British High Commission in Karachi

Kamiar Rokni

Kamiar 'Kami’ Rokni (Urdu: کامیار روکنی ‎) is a Pakistani fashion designer and media personality. He is the founder of his namesake label The House of Kamiar Rokni and also a design director at Sapphire.

Early life
Kamiar was born via Pakistani and Persian descent on 15 October 1976 in Bahawalpur. His father is from Iran and his mother is from Bahawalpur in south Punjab. He comes from a creative family and was always surrounded by culture and art. The people around him were always making something so the first thing that he was interested in as a young person was making clothes which came to him at the age of seven.

Career
In 2008, Kamiar commenced hosting a show called No Reservations on Dawn News where celebrities were invited for a candid talk about their lives.

In early 2018, it was announced that Kamiar Rokni had joined Sapphire, the retail giant as a Design Director whilst simultaneously continuing his namesake label.

Kamiar mentors the 'Emerging Talent' segment of Pakistan Fashion Design Council.

Achievements

In 2008, Kamiar Rokni was nominated for a Lux Style Award in the 'Best Prêt Wear' category.In 2017, he was nominated again and this time for the category of 'Achievement in Fashion Design – Bridal'.

Two of Kamiar Rokni's designs opened the 'artist' and the 'prom queen' segments at the Lahore Grammar School Defence branch fashion show in 2008 which was held to raise funds for the Smile Again Foundation

In 2014, Kamiar partnered with Porsche Pakistan to create a capsule collection based on the theme of Polo.

In 2016, he collaborated with L'Oréal Paris Pakistan in their Ambassador of Fashion platform by creating a capsule collection for the "Art of Color" campaign.

Kamiar designed a custom-made dress for Meesha Shafi at the Magnum Chocolate Party of 2017 in Lahore, Pakistan. As Meesha performed her track, her dress was illuminated using projection mapping by the light artist, Umer Toor. The 3D illuminated dress show became a major social media attraction for the event.

Zainab Chottani is a Pakistan based fashion designer who started as a bridal wear designer but has then included prêt and haute couture in her forte. She is one of the well known designers in Pakistan for bridal wear and has displayed her creations in Pakistan as well as in Dubai, USA and London.

Career

Chottani started in bridal fashion under the name of Zainab Sajid in 1999. She works with traditional colors and uses embroidery along with different cuts to form new designs. The designs contain influences from the Mughal Era where Royal women adorned heavily decorated dresses to look more attractive. Her bridal dresses are specifically made to order as to cater to the different requirements of each bride. She has displayed her bridal collection in various exhibitions including the Pantene Bridal Couture week and Pakistan Fashion Week by Riwayat in the UK.

Aqua and Mera Pakistan
Zainab Chottani has added to her portfolio by introducing the brands Aqua and Mera Pakistan. Aqua is a fashion label which features ready to wear clothes for women. Launched in 2012, the brand makes clothes to be worn in the summer season by featuring bright colors and baggy shirts.Later it launched the Mera Pakistan collection in March 2012 which aimed to convert Pakistan’s cultural symbols into fashion. It did this by featuring rickshaws, traditional drums, the Minar-e-Pakistan on its kurta’s, a long shirt worn by women in Pakistan.

Chottani did her first show in 2010 with Frieha Altaf, and has showcased her work during the Pakistan Fashion Week and Bridal Couture Week. Creations from the house of Zainab Chottani have been displayed in various fashion shows. Guinness world record for largest kurta

The designer has recently created the world's largest kurta. The kurta, large enough to be worn by a 175-foot-tall (53 m) person, was unveiled at a public ceremony. The Guinness World Records later certified the entry based on a rigorous documentation process. The kurta weighs 800 kg, is 101 feet tall and 59 feet 3 inches wide. Each sleeve is almost 57 feet long. It took a team of 50 professional tailors a period of 30 days to make the kurta. The huge kurta is made of 800 yards of cotton blend fabric.
